How far is Utshwayelo Lodge from Kosi Bay Mouth and the beach?
We are only 2 km from Kosi Bay Mouth — the closest lodge to the sea!
Our lodge borders the Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife Kosi Bay Reserve, part of the iSimangaliso Wetland Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
We are also 10 km from Ponta do Ouro in Mozambique — perfect for a day trip!
Getting Here & Access
Can I reach Utshwayelo Lodge with a normal car?
✅ Yes, you can reach the lodge in a normal car.
🚙 To drive all the way down to Kosi Mouth beach, you will need a 4×4 or 2×4 LDV with diff-lock.
🚶♂️ Alternatively, enjoy a beautiful, safe hike to the beach, or book one of our transfer shuttles — available on request.
What are the Kosi Bay Mouth gate times?
⏰ Gates open at 6:00 AM and close at 6:00 PM daily.
⚠️ Entry is by permit only. Remember, no boats or trailers are allowed, as this is a protected UNESCO World Heritage area.
Permits & Access
Where can I get permits for Kosi Mouth, Black Rock, and lakes?
🎫 Kosi Mouth permits: Available at Utshwayelo Lodge reception (7:30 AM – 4:30 PM).
📜 Daily vehicle entry papers (free) are required and issued at reception.
🎣 Fishing permits, night fishing, and Black Rock permits: From Ezemvelo Kosi Bay Camp office (Tel: 035 592 0236).

Do you have a swimming pool?
💦 Yes! We offer a lovely swimming pool for guests to relax and cool off.
Do you have electricity?
🔋 Yes, solar-powered electricity is available. We encourage eco-friendly use — high-energy items like kettles, hairdryers, aircons, and ice machines are not permitted.
🧊 Campsites: Electricity runs for approximately 6 hours daily to keep fridges and freezers cold.
What’s provided in the communal kitchen?
🍳 Fully equipped kitchen for self-catering guests in Hippo Chalets and Tusker Suites, including:
- Fridges, freezers, gas stoves, and ovens
- Crockery, cutlery, and food prep utensils
- Food containers for separation
Do you have braai (BBQ) facilities?

- Private braai at campsites and Turtle Tents.
- Webers and fire pit available in the boma.
